Fran Wilson has been the 1733 Chorus musical director nearly since it was created more than 43 years ago. He served in the ARmy Security Agency from 1955-1958 with thwo fo those years in Germany. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from Fort Hays State University (Kansas) in 1962. Then he taught in Belleville, Kansas for two years bfeore coming ti Kearney where he taughter vocal music at Kearney Publis Schools from 1964-1996.
He has directed the Faith United Methodist Church Choir in Kearney for nearly 50 yeras. Married to Jan, they have two sons, Alan and Kirby, and two daughters Wendy Stevenson and Regina Stevey-Heaky, They also have two grandsons, two granddaughters, a great granddaughter andd a great-grandson. Fran also sings with the Platte River Singers, as well as two quartets, Habitat 4 Harmony and Patent Pending.
A charter member of the 1733 Kearney Area Barbershop Chorus, Fran has been involved in barbershopping since 1964. He has seldom missed an International Convention in all those years, and has also attend many Midwinter convetnions. He sings both baritone and bass these days, but was a lead in some quartets in the past.
Fran has made trips to Europe with boys choris that he directed over the years and he has received numerous community awards for his promotion and participation in music. His tenure as a high school music teacher included directing numrous Broadway musicals.
